Dieser Erfolg zeitigte auch eine sprichwörtliche Redensart: Wie es "Kalauer" gab, gab es auch den "Meidinger", der eine allbekannte Anekdote bezeichnete, denn die bei Meidinger als Übersetzungsbeispiele angeführten Anekdoten wurden als bekannt vorausgesetzt.
