Durch eine Kathodenreaktion bilden sich mehr OH- Ionen was auch den Anstieg des pH-Wertes bewirkt. Aus dem Anstieg des kontinuierlich gemessenem pH-Wertes wurde die Ionenpermeabilität bestimmt. Diese Filme wurden Belastungstests wie der Salzsprühnebelprüfung ausgesetzt. Nach Ablauf der Tests wurde untersucht, inwieweit eine Korrelation zwischen den Ergebnissen der konventionellen Prüfungen und der Messung der Ionenpermeabilität zu erkennen ist.
