Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. This is a nicely preserved issue of the March 1903 "Cosmopolitan Illustrated Monthly Magazine" . There is a lot to digest in this old periodical. The word beauty must have been making the rounds in the editorial office, for there are Two articles addressing said word : "Beauty in the Modern Chorus", and "Beauty and the Woman of Fifty". Both are illustrated with photographs of lovely women. On a more serious front, apiece on "The Police Systems of Europe" by Avery D. Andrews (who had been Police Commissioner of New York). Surprising to see the bicycle usage in Europe for officers of the law; the article is illustrated with photographs. "Mankind in the Making", a serialized work by H. G. Wells, is continued. A feature on European artist Franz Von Lembach should be interesting to those who are aware of him. There is plenty of fiction, and a smattering of poetry, and a great deal of period advertising, covering just about anything you could imagine, including automobiles, cameras, typewriters, fashion, foods, medical curiosities, and more. TABLE OF CONTENTS : * Beauty in the Modern Chorus -- by Hjalmar Hjorth Boyesen (stepping away from his professorship and fame as a Norwegian-born novelist) * The Police Systems of Europe -- by Avery D. Andrews * Beauty and the Women of Fifty -- by Mrs. Wilson Woodrow * Barlasch of the Guard -- Continuation of a serial novel -- by Henry Seton Merriman * Breed of the West -- Fiction by Charles Tenney Jackson * The Young Napoleon - The Genesis of a Great Career -- Part 2 of a serialized biography -- by Field-Marshall Viscount Wolseley * Love -- Poem by Florence Radcliffe * A'Fishing in the Keowee Country -- Humorous Fiction by E. Crayton M'Cants (Illustrated by E. W. Kemble) * The Selection of a Home -- by Clarence A. Martin * Von Lenbach, the Man and Painter -- by Louise Parks Richards * Mankind in the Making -- Continuation of the serialized work by Herbert George Wells (H. G. Wells) * A Hint From Fate -- Fiction by David Graham Phillips * Making a Choice of a Profession III - Insurance -- by Charles F. Thwing (President of Western Reserve University) * Captains of Industry (With Portraits) - James Brooks Dill - and Edward Henry Harriman -- by William J. Boies & Robert N. Burnett * Great Events : Humor and Satire -- by 'The Worlds Most Famous Cartoonists' TITLE : The Cosmopolitan, An Illustrated Monthly Magazine ISSUE : Vol. XXXIV, No. 25 DATE : March 1903 EDITOR : John Brisben Walker IMPRINT : Hearst & Co.
